The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) announced today that "all is set for Red fighters of the New People's Army (NPA) to fall in formation in their respective units at high noon of October 15 to pay tribute to former CPP spokesperson Gregorio 'Ka Roger' Rosal."

"The CPP, the NPA, allied organizations of the National Democratic Front and the revolutionary masses within and outside the guerrilla zones across the Philippines will give the Red Salute to pay their highest respects to the late revolutionary hero, Ka Roger," said the CPP. "Activities are also slated tomorrow and in the following days to allow the Filipino people in general to participate in remembering Ka Roger's humble life of service."

The CPP reiterated its call on the Aquino regime and its armed forces "to respect the wishes of the people to mourn and pay their respects to Ka Roger."

"Tomorrow, as NPA Red fighters raise their weapons and fire their guns, Ka Roger will be inaugurated into the Hall of Heroes and Martyrs of the Filipino people," added the CPP. In a prepared statement to be read tomorrow at high noon, the CPP said "Ka Roger's name will be engraved onto the granite wall next to such great working class heroes as Andres Bonifacio, Macario Sakay, Crisanto Evangelista, Amado V. Hernandez, Felixberto Olalia, Crispin Beltran and many others."

"In death as in life, Ka Roger's voice reverberates across the archipelago with his call for mass struggles and revolutionary armed resistance. His voice will continue to resonate among the Filipino people because he spoke the truth about the Filipino people's oppression and exploitation and about their aspirations to put an end to their life of hardship, poverty and hunger," the CPP statement continued.

It added that "Even as we inaugurate Ka Roger into the Hall of Heroes and Martyrs, millions of Filipinos continue to resist and fight to achieve freedom from oppression and exploitation and genuine national liberation. They form part of the continuum of revolutionary struggle that has set its sights on overthrowing the corrupt, the abusers of power, the fascist criminals, the oppressors and exploiters. Soon, the workers, peasants and other ordinary people for whom Ka Roger fought for will stand as proudly as their own heroes as they write their history of freedom and liberation."
