The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today warned that armed conflict between the AFP and the revolutionary armed forces of the Moro people is bound to escalate as the Aquino regime continues to deny the just demands of the Bangsamoro for self-determination as the foundation for forging a peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

At least 30 soldiers have been killed over the past few days in several clashes between the AFP and fighters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) in Basilan and Lanao. In a single incident last October 18, at least 19 soldiers of the Marine Special Forces and six MILF fighters were killed in Al-Barka town, Basilan. The clash broke out despite a longstanding ceasefire agreement between the Philippine government (GPH) and the MILF.

The MILF has accused the AFP of violating the ceasefire agreement by carrying out offensive military operations in an "area of temporary stay" of MILF fighters.

"GPH President Aquino constantly talks about peace but does not know how to talk peace with the MILF or with the revolutionary forces under the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP)," said the CPP. "Aquino and his spinmasters' expertise lies in using peace negotiations for political gimmickry instead of addressing the serious issues of national self-determination that lie at the core of the Moro people's revolutionary resistance."

"This is clearly displayed by Aquino's proposal to the MILF defining the GPH as the sole political authority and reducing the settlement of the Moro people's aspirations to the provision of funds for socio-economic programs," said the CPP.

"The GPH has flatly rejected the MILF's demand for some form of political autonomy and has instead insulted the MILF and Moro people by offering to appoint some of their leaders to the GPH's Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)."

"By failing to recognize the just and historic political and socio-economic demands of the Moro people, the Aquino regime is bound to fail in its peace negotiations with the MILF," said the CPP. "Aquino is thereby creating conditions for the warmongers to push for the resumption of allout war against the MILF and the Moro people."
