The Pambansang Katipunan ng mga Magbubukid, allied organization of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (PKM-NDFP) renders the highest tribute to, Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, hero of the Filipino peasantry and the undying voice of his class.

Ka Roger was born to Pablo Rosal and Crispina Crusat in Ibaan, Batangas on April 19, 1947. Born to a peasant family, his father and mother both as farmworkers in a small sugarcane plantation in Batangas, Ka Roger witnessed and experienced early on the sufferings and struggles of the masses. He left school at an early age, became a landowner’s help and a huckster selling mosquito nets and other small items to help support his family economically.

Ka Roger suffered first-hand the extreme feudal and semi-feudal exploitation and oppression under the hands of big landlords. This situation raised his political consciousness that further deepened upon his involvement in the revolutionary struggle. First, as a member of the Kabataang Makabayan (KM) during the First Quarter Storm, and later, as political prisoner of the fascist Marcos dictatorship.

As a Party cadre and Red Fighter of the New People’s Army in the Southern Tagalog Region, Ka Roger led, organized and mobilized the peasantry in waging and advancing armed struggle and agrarian revolution that includes the minimum program of reducing land rent, abolition of usury, raising wages of farm workers, raising the prices of farmers’ produce, up to the punishment of abusive and despotic landlords.

Every day, in the fields and places of production, millions of farmers, fisherfolk, and rural poor in revolutionary base areas tune in to their transistor radios longing to hear Ka Roger’s voice, his sharpest analysis on the burning issues of the day, and hoping to hear the good news about the Philippine revolution. Ka Roger is truly the undying voice of his class.

The PKM along with millions of oppressed people will continue Ka Roger’s legacy in fighting for the interests of the Filipino peasantry and advancing the national democratic revolution until complete victory. We call on the Filipino peasantry to carry on the revolutionary legacy of Ka Roger and other martyrs of the Philippine revolution.

Turn our grief into revolutionary courage!

Long Live Ka Roger!

Long Live the Philippine Revolution!

Down with Imperialism, Feudalism, and Bureaucrat Capitalism!
