The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today said a large number of people are expected to join various activities slated on October 15 to pay tribute to its former spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal. News of Ka Roger's death on June 22 was belatedly released last Sunday.

"There has been overwhelming response from people expressing admiration for Ka Roger's life of sacrifice and service to the people," said the CPP. "Many have been inspired to take on the path of revolutionary struggle to achieve the aspirations for national and social liberation which Ka Roger humbly dedicated his life to."

"Young people are especially being inspired by Ka Roger's life story," said the CPP. "They are determined to keep the flames of Ka Roger's memory burning as a fitting tribute to a great revolutionary leader."

"Various activities on October 15 will coincide with a gun salute by the New People's Army (NPA) to be carried out at noon to pay tribute to Ka Roger," said the CPP. "Many people have asked to join the activities and witness the NPA gun salute."

"However, as in the past, we expect the Aquino regime and its armed forces to set up checkpoints to prevent people from reaching the areas where NPA units are scheduled to fall in formation," said the CPP.

"The AFP is determined to prevent people from properly paying tribute to Ka Roger and his life's work in service of their revolution."
