The Narciso Antazo Command denounces the illegal arrests of Marissa Espedido, 21 y/o, Hermogenes Reyes Jr. 22 y/o; and Jared Valero Morales 21 y/o, residents of Rizal and former students of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. They were arrested at Brgy. Sta. Inez, Tanay, Rizal on October 26, 2011 by the 16th IB headed by Sgt. Rudy Bautista, the Patrol Base Commander of Brgy. Sta. Inez Patrol Base, with combined elements from Rizal PNP and members of CAFGU.

The three were conducting community consultations on the aborted peace talks between the CPP-NPA-NDF and the GPH with the residents of the barangay. The said peace talks should have been held on October 31, 2011 at Oslo, Norway.

The three were deprived of their rights to immediately inform their families of their arrest , instead they were hidden overnight inside a detachment of the 59th IB and subjected to intense interrogation and torture. Blind folded and hog-tied, they were then taken to the 16th IB Battalion Headquarters in Pinugay, Baras, Rizal the following day, October 27. There they were once again subjected to more interrogations and harsher torture from the hands of the military.

Upon learning of the incident, their worried families immediately went to the camp but were not allowed to talk or even see the three illegally arrested

The three are now facing trumped-up charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunitions and explosives, and are being held at the Rizal Provincial Jail in Taytay, Rizal. Until now, their families are denied access to them.

These flagrant AFP violations of the agreements between the CPP-NPA-NDF and the GPH shows the lack of sincerity of the Philippine Government in pursuing the peace talks.

We are calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Espedido, Reyes and Morales; and for the military to respect human rights and the International Humanitarian Law, the way NPA extended those to the three POWs P/Insp. Rex Cuntapay, PO1 Albert Umali and PO1 Marvin Agasen arrested by members of NAAC-NPA-Rizal on 2009. #
