Massive PNP/10th ID-AFP combat operations in Davao inflict serious rights violations on civilians; abusive troops hit in NPA punitive actions

Combined Philippine National Police and 10th Infantry Division-AFP forces in massive combat operations in Davao hinterlands inflict continuing rights violations against residents in Paquibato District in Davao City. These brutal fascist operations deceptively peddled as 'peace and development' missions under the US-Aquino regime's anti-people Oplan 'Bayanihan' were hit in a series of NPA punitive actions in the villages of Barangays Lumiad, Paradise Embac, and Guinobatan, all in Paquibato District, Davao City.

NDF-EV condemns whitewash of 19th IB massacre

CPP Information Bureau
January 21, 2011

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas today assailed the Department Of Justice for clearing the 19th IB of responsibility for the massacre of botanist Leonardo Co and two others last Nov. 15 in Kananga, Leyte. "The DOJ ruling absolving the 19th IB and shifting the blame to the New People's Army is pure hogwash because there was no NPA unit anywhere near the massacre site," said Fr. Santiago Salas, NDF-EV spokesperson. "Furthermore, the DOJ ruling stands in solitary contradiction to the physical evidence and eyewitness testimonies uncovered by concerned organizations, that the line of fire came from the military and there was no answering fire whatsoever. It is deplorable that the so-called DOJ "fact-finding" consisted of swallowing the military's alibi of a "crossfire" and then spewing a whitewash on the public."

Floods and landslides are consequences of socio-economic and environmental ruin

CPP Information Bureau
January 21, 2011

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas said today that the floods and landslides afflicting Eastern Visayas happened because of socio-economic policies that caused hardship to the people and also led to environmental destruction. "Eastern Visayas has been suffering regularly from floods and landslides since the 1990s,"said NDF-EV spokesperson Fr. Santiago Salas. "The region is prone to such calamities because of decades of anti-people and anti-environment socio-economic policies. The regional economy is tied to the extraction and export of raw materials from logging, mining, and plantation cultivation especially of coconut, that all contribute to massive deforestation and destruction of watersheds. The imperialists, big business and landlords benefit, while the vast majority of the people remain impoverished. What little possessions the people have, what little government infrastructure there is, are also often destroyed by calamities caused by environmental damage."

Communist Party of the Philippines
January 21, 2011

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today denounced the findings of the fact-finding team of the Department of Justice (DOJ), calling it a "grand coverup” and “distortion of facts” meant to exculpate the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Army’s 19th Infantry Battalion (19th IB) of their responsibility in the killing of botanist Leonardo Co and two companions last November in Leyte.

CPP denounces rushed arraignment of Ka Bart, denies AFP report of rescue attempt

CPP Information Bureau
January 20, 2011

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today denounced the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for "its attempt to rush yesterday a 'midnight arraignment' of NDFP consultant Tirso 'Ka Bart' Alcantara."

"Ka Bart was rushed to the RTC Branch 59 yesterday for an instant arraignment in violation of his legal rights, as neither he nor his lawyers were informed of the schedule," said the CPP. Executive Judge Eloida de Leon-Diaz was, however, compelled to postpone the arraignment to March 1 after Ka Bart refused the services of a court-appointed lawyer.

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Negotiating Panels held preliminary talks on 14-18 January 2011 in Oslo, Norway and agreed to resume formal peace talks. Formal talks could not be held for six years during the regime of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo because of the latter's conspiracy with the US to put the Communist Party of the Philippines, New People's Army and the NDFP Chief Political Consultant Jose Maria Sison on the US terrorist list and its refusal to resolve the socio-economic roots of the armed conflict.

ZBC-NPA to 10th ID-AFP's Aguilar: Shame on you for capitalizing on 'Amanda' in your black propaganda repertoire

Ka Sandawa, Zenaida Beron Command,
Front 54 Operations Command, NPA-Southern Mindanao
January 16, 2011

The 10th Infantry Division-Armed Forces of the Philippines is in no position to revile the family of 'Amanda' -- the minor misrepresented by the military as a "would be NPA recruit" -- for it has unraveled itself as not only having exploited the 17-year old as its unwitting asset; but has also made her a victim of statutory rape or sexual exploitation.
