June 10, 2011

By issuing inflammatory and provocative statements, the Aquino government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are stoking the Spratly Islands conflict in order to justify inviting US military presence in the South China sea lanes on the pretext of defending Philippine sovereignty.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) said that the the Aquino government's sudden rush to assert Philippine territorial claim over the Spratlys is part of the script written by the US imperialists to create a diplomatic row over the Southern China Sea to justify its buildup of military forces in the disputed region.

More than ever, it is imperative that millions upon millions of youth be mobilized to take action in solidarity with the entire Filipino people.

The ever worsening crisis, exploitation and poverty are matched only by the people's burning desire to put an end to the ruling semicolonial and semifeudal system. Massive unemployment, the workers and employees' meager wages and inability to cope with the rapidly rising prices of food, oil and other main commodities, and the growing cost of education, health care and housing are increasingly harder to bear.

10th ID spokesman Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza tries to take the discerning public and the media for a ride by falsely claiming that the 3rd Special Forces troops hit in the NPA ambush Tuesday, June 7, were part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) anti-illegal logging task force. He is lying and obviously, he needs to find more plausible excuses to keep his spin job.

Ms. Teresita (Ging) Quinto-Deles, the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process of the Government of the Philippines (GPH, formerly designated as the GRP), is mistaken in claiming that the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) is a mere side-table issue in the GPH-NDFP peace negotiations.

Ms. Ging Deles should be reminded that the primary purposes of the JASIG are “to facilitate the peace negotiations, create a favorable atmosphere conducive to free discussion and movement during the peace negotiations, and avert any incident that may jeopardize the peace negotiations."

Road projects of the US MCC and 8th ID serve to support the AFP's arena of battle

June 5, 2011

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas today said 8th Infantry Division chief Gen. Mario Chan is covering up the fact that the road projects in Samar are essentially the same in supporting the arena of battle for Oplan Bayanihan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. “Gen. Chan is lying when he says the projects of the US Millenium Challenge Corporation and the 8th ID are different from each other,” said NDF-EV spokesperson Fr. Santiago Salas. “The difference is only on paper, but these projects have the same purpose of transforming the arena of battle towards the maximum use of military force for Oplan Bayanihan. As part of the AFP's Triad Operations, the so-called “non-combat” or “civil-military operations” mainly serve to strengthen intelligence and enhance combat operations.
