On the Impeachment Calls on SC Chief Justice Corona

The recent Supreme Court hullabaloo triggered by the impeachment of its Chief Justice Renato Corona highlights the deep-seated and now intensifying contradictions between two representatives of the ruling class – the Arroyos and the Aquinos – in defending their respective self-interests. One ruling class cries foul over railroading legal processes while the other maintains running after corrupt leaders. However, both of them only want to make sure they maintain their hold to power.

Continuing Oplan Bayanihan operations make Aquino regime's 18-day ceasefire a sham--CPP

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today dismissed the 18-day ceasefire announced yesterday by the Aquino regime as a sham, given "the continuing military operations under the Oplan Bayanihan war of suppression.” Aquino's ceasefire declaration will come to nothing because the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) persists on committing abuses and violating human rights as they conduct their so-called civil-military and intelligence-gathering operations within civilian communities."

The Efren Martires Command of the New People's Army-Eastern Visayas said today that Red fighters harassed elements of the 78th IB last Dec. 11 between Brgy. Roxas and Brgy. Villa Aurora, Burauen Leyte. "The harassment action launched by the Mt. Amandewin Command is in support of the resistance against militarization by the residents of Brgy. Roxas and other villages," said EMC spokesperson Ka Karlos Manuel. "The people's grievances go to show that the so-called "peace and development" operations under Oplan Bayanihan merely brazenly cover up militarization in the countryside of Leyte. The Red fighters fired on operating troops of the 78th IB at 10:15 a.m. There were no casualties reported on either side, however."

Critical points of analysis on the worsening ruling class rifts under the Aquino regime

1. The impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona can be considered as an expedient albeit minor course of action towards putting Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo before the bar of justice. Corona is an Arroyo lackey. Foreseeing legal battles, the former president appointed Corona as Chief Justice at the eleventh hour so that she could avail of the powers of the Supreme Court when she needs to.

The latest media reports of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Negros Occidental Chief Dante Baldevarona that the NPA tops the list of human rights violations is highly expected from him as an AFP special agent. He even went beyond declaring that the AFP has no violations whatsoever and went on further to conclude that the fascist military now has a high level of human rights consciousness.

ANG BAYAN: Unite the people against the US-Aquino regime's war of suppression

After only a year and a half in power, the US-Aquino regime leaves behind a "road of righteousness" stained with the blood of victims of human rights violations committed in the course of the war of suppression being waged by the regime against the people. Benigno Aquino III's catchwords of "peace" and "respect for human rights" are not enough to cover up the brutality of his regime's armed minions against the Filipino people.

As soon as he came to power, Aquino gave marching orders to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to crush the New People's Army in three years. The AFP thus framed Oplan Bayanihan (OPB), a far more brutal war of suppression against the people.

Under OPB, military operations are being launched against villages suspected by the AFP and PNP of being active in the revolutionary movement. The AFP has positioned teams of soldiers in barrio centers to wreak havoc, terrorize and attack people it considers as "enemies of the state." These vicious operations are patterned after those launched by the butcher Gen. Jovito Palparan from 2004-2010.

NDF-EV assails “insurgency-free” charade in Leyte, warns of social volcano waiting to explode

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas said today that Gov. Jericho Petilla and 8th Infantry Division chief Gen. Mario Chan were engaging in a charade in declaring Leyte as “insurgency-free,” and warned that the province was a social volcano waiting to explode. The NDF-EV spokesperson, Fr. Santiago Salas, said that, “Gov. Petilla and Gen. Chan do not make fools of anyone but themselves in declaring Leyte as “insurgency-free” – while laughably nixing at the same time the withdrawal of military troops from the province. Their real intention is to justify the continuing militarization and the barefaced attacks on civilians and their communities under Oplan Bayanihan. Soldiers continue to violate international humanitarian law with impunity, occupying villages on the psywar of “peace and development,” such as in Tacloban City, Carigara, Tunga and other towns. The military also has yet to account for the series of massacres of peasants and other innocent civilians such as the noted scientist Leonard Co and his assistants. If there is any pest the people wish to be free of, it is the military and not the New People's Army.”
