The 28th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army has made another civilian a trophy for its counter-revolutionary operations. On March 19, abusive troops under the 28th IB ordered sitio leader Junifer Nabales, to come up to the barangay hall, and later, brought him to its headquarters in Barol, Lupon for interrogation. Since that day, soldiers have detained Nabales, much to the suffering of his wife Aling and their four children.

The 28th IB-701st Brigade is notorious for the various human rights abuses in the towns of Lupon, Banaybanay, San Isidro, Gov. Generoso and Mati, all in Davao Oriental. It has served as a private army of mining firms AMCOR, Oz Min, Phil. Youbang and Anaconda mining, which exploit the nickel, copper and gold resources in the province.
