In celebrating the 39th
founding anniversary of the National Democratic Front of the
Philippines this April 24, the NDFP-Eastern Visayas today calls
for
the broadening of the revolutionary united front and the
advancement
of the armed struggle against US imperialism and the Aquino
regime.
The people's war is a just war in fighting to overthrow the
reactionary ruling system and attain national and social
liberation.
Only by winning the national democratic revolution can the people
hope for a better future.
The people of Eastern
Visayas have long resisted US imperialism for over a hundred
years.
The blood of martyrs flowed freely in Samar and Leyte when US
imperialism suppressed the old Philippine revolution. And today,
with
the continuing march of the revolutionary struggle under the
leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines, US
imperialism
is once again increasing its intervention and its puppet Aquino
regime seeks to strengthen further US economic, political and
military interests.
It is clear as
daylight
that US imperialism is openly intervening in Eastern Visayas. It
is
funding road constructions especially in Samar through a $434
million
grant from the Millenium Challenge Corporation. This will benefit
the military operations under the Aquino regime's Oplan Bayanihan,
a
counterrevolutionary campaign under the indocrination and arming
of
US imperialism. The Balikatan war exercises and other military
agreements with the puppet government will also facilitate the
future
participation of US troops in Oplan Bayanihan.
By building
infrastructure to facilitate Oplan Bayanihan, US imperialism is
also
looking to secure large-scale mining especially in Samar.
According
to documents from the US Embassy in Manila exposed by the
whistleblower Wikileaks, the US drew up the framework for the
puppet
Philippine government's foreign investment-driven mining plan. The
US
also has the most comprehensive knowledge of the country's mineral
wealth, whose yet unmined worth is estimated by the US Geological
Survey to be more than $840 billion. Substantial parts of such
mineral wealth are in Samar, such as bauxite, chromite, nickel,
carbon and other mineral reserves. The US Embassy also
acknowledges
that providing security to mining operations is the key concern to
exploiting the country's mineral wealth.
Behind the pretense of
“peace and development,” the real steps of US imperialism and its
puppet Aquino regime in Eastern Visayas are thus towards more war
and
backwardness. Despite all the hype such as road constructions and
short-lived community bribery though the so-called 4Ps, there is
no
genuine economic development such as agrarian reform and national
industrialization. Meanwhile, the people suffer from landlessness,
depressed wages, rising prices of fuel, basic commodities and
utilities, the privatization of public institutions and services,
and
other socio-economic hardships. The masses of the people thus
languish under poverty, repression and dwindling social services,
while the region's natural resources are due to be plundered and
the
Aquino regime's “daang matuwid” (righteous path) continues to
pursue policies servile to US economic, political and military
interests. And when the people resist, they face the continuing
impunity of state security forces under the puppet government's
all-out war approach and refusal of peace talks to address the
root
causes of the armed conflict.
Thus NDFP-EV calls on
the
people: There is no road but the revolutionary road. Let us
broaden
our revolutionary united front and fight US imperialism and the
Aquino regime. Let us expand the ranks of organized peasants,
workers, women, students, teachers, church people and other
democratic sectors for the revolutionary armed struggle. Let us
study
and spread the NDFP's 12-Point Program to enlighten and win over
millions upon millions of the people to the revolutionary fold.
Let
us fight for national freedom against the pro-US Oplan Bayanihan
and
US imperialist intervention. Let us call for the removal of US
troops
and their ships and planes of war from the country. Let us fight
for
national freedom and advance the people's democratic revolution.#
