Combat troops belonging to the AFP's 71st Infantry Battalion were hit with a command detonated explosive April 28, at 8 pm in sitio Linaw, Barangay Panamin, Mabini town, Compostela Valley. One enemy was killed, while seven others were wounded.

The attritive action by the Crucifino Uballas Command, Guerilla Front 2 Operations Command-NPA was aimed at punishing the fascist AFP troops that have been conducting offensive military operations against peasants and small-scale miners in Mabini and Pantukan towns. Masses have cried against the hamletting, harassment, interrogation, series of harassments, and other psychological warfare conducted by the enemy in the course of its Oplan Bayanihan operations.

As a protector and private army for the US-Canadian mining firms Russell Mining and St. Augustine in Pantukan, the 71st IB has further unleashed its fangs against the resisting masses. It has stretched itself in the hinterland villages of Mabini town, acting as goons for Australian mining firm, One Asia Resources Ltd., that is set to operate an open-pit gold mining operation in the area.

Thus, it is the height of hypocrisy for the AFP to condemn the command detonated blast as an IHL (international humanitarian law) violation. The NPA will continue to defend the interest of the masses, even as it strictly adheres to the protocols of war.
