The entire membership of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and colleagues of people's lawyer Atty. Romeo T. Capulong, who died on September 16 after a lingering illness.

The revolutionary forces led by the CPP salute his invaluable contributions to the peace negotiations, including the drafting of important and defining bilateral agreements. He defended political prisoners, peasants, workers and other victims of political repression pro bono, among them CPP founding chair Jose Ma. Sison who eventually won a six-year legal battle in the European courts against trumped-up charges levelled against him by the US imperialists and its lackey the Arroyo regime. Ka Romy courageously took on the challenges despite the very real threats he faced from the reactionary forces, including several attempts on his life. His unwavering commitment stemmed from his deep-seated belief in the justness of the revolutionary cause.

His passing will in no way erase the indelible mark he has made both in the lives of those he helped and in the overall course of the revolutionary struggle.
