The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today condemned the docking today at Manila Bay of the USS George Washington (CVN-73), one of the largest nuclear-capable aircraft carriers of the US navy. Another US warship, the USS Campbell, that form part of the USS George Washingtom Carrier Strike Group, arrived in early October and is also set to dock at Manila Bay after conducting sea patrols in Philippine Seas over the past weeks.

"The USS George Washington is one of the US military's main weapons in launching wars of intervention, occupation and suppression," said the CPP. "Its docking at Manila Bay underscores how the Philippines under the puppet Aquino regime is being used by the US military as a platform for its intervention and power projection."

"Over the past 20 years since it was put into service, the USS George Washington has served in successive US wars of intervention. It has been deployed to the Persian Gulf in line with the US war of occupation against Iraq as well as US military interventionist operations in Afghanistan."

"The USS George Washington was also recently involved in the brutal US interventionist war in Libya to overthrow the anti-imperialist Ghadaffi regime. It served as the base of US aircraft that conducted bombing runs in Tripoli and elsewhere, targetting hospitals and other civilian facilities and residential areas and killing several hundreds."

"The USS George Washington is also frequently based at the Yokusuka Naval Base in Japan to engage in power projection activities and provocations against North Korea and China," added the CPP. "It is presently being used by the US to project its military power in the South China Sea to ensure US control of the key sea lanes, violating the sovereignty of countries in the region."

"By hosting the American war machine, the USS George Washington, the Aquino regime is making itself a pawn in the US wars of intervention, occupation and suppression which has robbed the Iraqi people, the Afghans, the Libyan people and many others of their freedom and caused unspeakable brutalities against their men, women and children," added the CPP.

The CPP also pointed out that "the docking of the USS George Washington will continue to worsen the diplomatic problems revolving around the multi-country claims over various land features in the South China Sea including the Scarborough Shoal and the Spratly Islands. In vowing to support the claims of the Philippine and Vietnam governments, the US is outrightly undermining the position of China and provoking it to be more aggressive in asserting its own claims."

The CPP added that with a crew of around 6,000 US Navy personnel, the USS George Washington is also often accompanied by a surge of prostitution wherever it is docked. This is the third time under the Aquino regime that the USS George Washington has docked in Manila.
