Marcos' martial law implementor, “Rolex 12” conspirator, is lying through his teeth

Enrile's cover-up of his fake ambush is clearly fake. He is lying through his teeth. He should not think he can fool the people.

Enrile's attempt to clear his name and whitewash the brutal record of the Marcos dictatorship insults the hundreds of thousands of victims of the dictator Marcos, their families and their survivors. The countless victims of torture, extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance, illegal arrest and detention, and forced displacement, will surely cry “FOUL”!

Enrile and other notorious collaborators of Marcos, “The Rolex 12”, are accountable, together with Ferdinand Marcos, to the numerous victims of the Marcos dictatorship and to the entire Filipino people. For 14 long years, Enrile as Defense Secretary, and one of the closest collaborators of the dictator, cannot escape his responsibility for the crimes of the Marcos dictatorship.

The final judgment in 1992 of the United States Federal Court System in the Human Rights Litigation Against Marcos convicted the Marcos martial law regime of gross and systematic violations of human rights, consisting of torture, summary executions and involuntary disappearances. The Court awarded US$ 2 Billion in damages to the over 9,500 victims who testified before the US Federal Court.

Even as early as November 1980, the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal (PPT), with Nobel Laureate Prof. George Wald of the US leading a 10-member international jury, declared “Ferdinand Marcos guilty of grave and numerous economic and political crimes against the Filipino people and declares him unfit to govern, and subject to severe punishment for his past wrongs, including economic plunder and failure to protect the sovereignty of his country from neo-colonial interventions.”

The PPT Session on the Philippines likewise makes special mention of Enrile. The PPT stated, “For instance, Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile has been able to acquire control over the entire coconut industry, through his influence in government. At the same time, coconut workers (who, with their dependents, number 15 million people) became the category of workers most affected by the real wage decreases. The same Mr. Enrile also accumulated a great amount of real property.”

The PPT further declared, “Indeed, the entire repressive apparatus of the Marcos Martial Law system violates the political and civil rights of the Filipino and Bangsa Moro peoples, with the connivance, collaboration and participation of the United States government and its various agencies.” It adds, “The Tribunal finds the corrupt and plundering Marcos 'entourage' guilty as accomplices and perpetrators of numerous political and economic crimes and declares them subject to punishment by an appropriate criminal court.”

The Filipino people, in their millions, who courageously struggled against the brutal attacks of the US-backed Marcos dictatorship, continue to struggle for national and social liberation. They will junk Enrile's attempt to whitewash the hideous and brutal record of Ferdinand Marcos, Enrile, and the “Rolex 12”.
