Arroyo and Aquino economics are one and the same

Communist Party of the Philippines
January 14, 2011

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's "It's the economy, student" is a shameless paper of self-promotion built on lies and half-truths--the very same foundation on which, for nine long years, she built her corrupt and brutal regime from 2001 to 2010. It presents itself as a professor's critique of her student's economic policies, but is actually nothing more than a shallow political diatribe.

Arroyo tries to differentiate herself from Aquino in form, portraying herself as the "hardworking professor" and Aquino as "the easy go lucky student". However, she failed to point out any crucial difference in terms of content, because in reality, there is none.

The Efren Martires Command of the New People's Army-Eastern Visayas said today that the Armed Forces of the Philippines continued military operations in Western Samar despite the Aquino government's unilateral ceasefire declaration. “Aquino's ceasefire declaration was shown as a sham in Western Samar,” said EMC spokesperson Ka Karlos Manuel. “As reported by the NPA's Arnulfo Ortiz Command, 8th Infantry Division troops launched several military operations within the Aquino government ceasefire period from Dec. 16 to Jan. 2. These repeated violations show the untrustworthiness of the Aquino government and its military, whose ceasefires turn out to be nothing but gimmicks to camouflage offensive operations.”

Since my arrest in February last year and detention since then at the Camp Crame PNP Custodial Center, this is the third time prison authorities have moved to have me transferred to another detention center where conditions are more restrictive and harsh so that I can be more effectively shut up. In all instances, prison authorities have done so in reprisal for struggles against human rights violations, undue restrictions and poor prison conditions.

As the families of the victims of January 5 Pantukan landslides suffer from the loss of their loved ones, the US-Aquino regime has stepped up its campaign to eventually dislocate them with the strict enforcement of the No-habitation policy and the military-aided forcible evacuation. Indeed, the Malacanang order is a face-saving measure meant to conceal the Aquino regime’s gross negligence in addressing geological disasters while filling its coffers with resources out of the blood and sweat of small-scale miners.
