It is also a matter of principle for the Filipino people to demand a peaceful resolution of the conflicting claims through diplomatic negotiations on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit.

Today, the 22nd of April, as the world commemorates Earth Day, the NDFP-Mindanao wishes to renew its unwavering commitment in the struggle to save and to defend our one and only planet Earth. But sad to say, that today, the survival of our generation and the generations thereafter is seriously threatened by the seemingly unstoppable destruction of the habitat of the human race. This is so, mainly because of the imperialists’ global impunity to plunder and destroy our planet’s environ, placing super-profit above the interest and welfare of the whole humanity. Our commitment to Mother Earth is the commitment to fight side-by-side with all the peoples of the world in the struggle against the plunderer, oppressive and exploitative US imperialist-led global order.

We believe that mining is legitimate for providing needed metals for the development of our industry. In this context, mining must, first and foremost, serve the interest of the majority of the Filipino people, and only secondarily to foreign interests. However, it is evident that P-Noy favors his real bosses, destructive, oppressive and exploitative large-scale imperialist mining companies, which plunder our finite mineral resources for their greed for super-profit, over the interest of his “bosses” – the Filipino people.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) urged the Filipino people to oppose the Aquino regime's policy of national treachery in calling for increasing American military presence in the Phlippines through the Balikatan "joint exercises." The CPP issued this statement as around 4,500 US soldiers are set to arrive in the Philippines to hold naval and other maneuvers starting tomorrow along the South China Sea off the coast of Palawan, in the general vicinity of the disputed Spratly islands.

"How can the 8th ID's new chief, Gen. Gerardo Layug, claim to be working for disaster mitigation when the military is paving the way in the region for large-scale mining, a major cause of natural disasters like floods and landslides?" said Fr. Santiago Salas, NDF-EV spokesperson. "The 8th ID's military operations under Oplan Bayanihan are meant to put down the people's resistance to large-scale mining, a centerpiece program of the Aquino regime. Moreover, the 8th ID is busy with road construction projects to facilitate the movement of troops as well as the entry of mining firms under military protection in wide swathes of Samar and Leyte."

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Negotiating Panel vigorously condemns the illegal arrest and detention of NDFP Consultant Renante Gamara. He was arrested by armed men in civilian clothes on April 3, 2012 in Las Pinas, Rizal. Not read his Miranda rights nor shown any warrant of arrest, he and his companion, Santiago Balleta, were handcuffed and brought to the Camp Crame Custodial Center.

Reports coming from NPA operational commands in the field clearly shows that military operations and deployment in the different provinces in the Ilocos-Cordillera Region have targeted areas marked by criss-crossing and overlapping applications for large-scale corporate mining, hydropower and geothermal interests and disrupt the upcoming simultaneous celebrations of the historic Cordillera Day. Consequently human rights and international humanitarian covenants violations continue to go unabated. The Cordillera People's Democratic Front warns the mercenary AFP that it's role in safeguarding anti-people mining interests as an investment defence force will be met with revolutionary action.
