13 July 2012

Julie and I wish to express our most heartfelt condolences to the children and other  relatives of Maita Gomez;  and to all  her comrades and friends.  All of us are  deeply saddened by her unexpected demise.

Until her cardiac arrest, we had thought that she  had many more years to serve the people in their struggle for national liberation and democracy and the women in their struggle for gender equality and for their full participation in all social endeavors.  Nevertheless, her life  is full of significant and outstanding achievements in fulfilling her revolutionary commitment and in rendering service to the people and the women's liberation movement.

Editorial: Confront Aquino's remaining years with mass struggles and armed resistance

Hearing how Aquino has been describing his first two years in power, one would think that life in the Philippines has grown so grand. Poverty, he says, now belongs to a bygone era, with prosperity and a life of comfort both within reach. But that would be the case only if one were to turn a deaf ear to the cries and grievances of a people in the depths of hunger and poverty. The "path of righteousness" slogan Aquino keeps on mouthing is nothing but a figment of his imagination. It can be...More

AFP troops operating in the countrysides of Davao City, particularly Paquibato, Calinan and Marilog districts suffered five casualties from the sniping operations of the 1st Pulang Bagani Company-New People's Army in three separate incidents on July 8 and 9.

The NPA actions were in retaliation to the strike, intelligence and civic military operations of the 69th Infantry Battalion and 84th IB of the Philippine Army and paramilitary Cafgus.  These troops have been responsible for the series of landgrabbing, dislocation and mining preparation in Marilog, profiling and psychological warfare in Paquibato and Calinan district.

July 11, 2012

EO #79 is a declaration of war against the Filipino people--CPP

Information Bureau
Communist Party of the Philippines
July 10, 2012

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today called Executive Order No. 79 released by Benigno Aquino last Monday "a declaration of war against the Filipino people." The EO, said the CPP, seeks to strengthen centralized control and further liberalize the mining industry to further allow foreign big mining companies to plunder Philippine resources and ravage the environment in exchange for a bigger share of taxes for the government.

Brutal military operations in Caraga continue to defend imperialist mining and plantation companies and the local ruling clique

July 10, 2012

The Armed Forces of the Philippines launched another round of brutal and huge military campaigns and operations against the people and the revolutionary forces in the Caraga Region from the middle of June until the present.  Deploying troops from over ten battalions of the 4th Infantry Division, this military operation is augmented with CAFGU and PNP troops in the region. This ruthless onslaught has caused people to suffer, resulting in various human rights violations.  But the people, on the one hand, heroically and daringly fought against these latest AFP attacks by launching open mass struggles, while the New People’s Army in the region, on the other, responded with counter-offensive actions through intensive and widespread tactical offensives in the past two weeks.

Like Haciendero President Aquino, Like Haciendero General Mabanta

Recently, General Mabanta, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) of the reactionary Philippine Army  (PA) had the gall to bid out the land-grabbed Army Reservation to investors engaged in the tourism business and tourists as if he owns the land that the Division squats on.

He conveniently brushed aside the fact that the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) forcibly took the 33,000-hectare Tumandok ancestral land and has continually attempted to drive away the Tumandok branding them as squatters on the land of their forefathers.

Joint Statement
July 10, 2012

Less than a year since  the killing of 59-year-old Italian missionary Fr. Fausto "Pops" Tentorio in Mindanao, we hear the news thatWilhelmus Geertman, a 67-year-old Dutch NGO/community worker, has been shot by two motorcycle-riding men, believed to be military agents, in his office in Angeles City, Philippines.

Philippine solidarity groups in New Zealand are shocked and outraged over this incident. The Philippines has become notorious for being one of the most dangerous places for journalists and activists, with the hundreds of extrajudicial killings during Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's presidency.

Confront Aquino's remaining years with mass struggles and armed resistance

ANG BAYAN, Editorial
7 July 2012

Hearing how Aquino has been describing his first two years in power, one would think that life in the Philippines has grown so grand. Poverty, he says, now belongs to a bygone era, with prosperity and a life of comfort both within reach. But that would be the case only if one were to turn a deaf ear to the cries and grievances of a people in the depths of hunger and poverty.

The "path of righteousness" slogan Aquino keeps on mouthing is nothing but a figment of his imagination. It can be likened to a lullaby that Aquino like to sing over and over to lull the people's minds and usher them into a world of make-believe. But even innocent babies bawl when their bellies ache with hunger and they are deprived of care. The fantasy world Aquino likes to conjure will eventually vanish in the face of the overwhelming reality of poverty, oppression and exploitation.

The rapid expansion of mining and plantations owned by imperialists and the ruling class means calamities and war in Mindanao

Ka Oris
NDFP-Mindanao
09 July 2012

Military operations in Mindanao have escalated and have become more extensive with the aim to thwart the ever growing and widespread people’s protest against destructive mining operations and plantations owned by imperialists, the big comprador bourgeois and big landlords.  After having ravaged the environment by way of wanton logging, imperialists and the local ruling clique insidiously intend to inflict even greater devastation to the environment; and, to deprive, oppress and exploit further the Lumads, Moro, peasants and workers in order to satiate their greed for superprofit.
