Led by the Revolutionary Council of Trade Unions-National Democratic Front-Southern Tagalog (RCTU-NDF-ST), some 50 workers, urban poor, youth, and women held a forum in a town in Batangas today, celebrating 165th year anniversary since the publication of the Manifesto of the Communist Party.

In the forum themed “165th Year of the Communist Manifesto: History and Contribution of Marxism in the Continuing Struggle of the Workers and Peoples of the World”, the RCTU reiterated the “importance of adhering to the lessons of the great leader Karl Marx in continuing and winning the revolution”. RCTU is a revolutionary organization allied with the National Democratic Front.

According to Fortunato Magtanggol, spokesperson of RCTU-NDF-ST, “while it has been written and published almost two centuries ago, the lessons and analyses of the Communist Manifesto remain to be relevant today especially with the intensifying crisis of the world capitalist system”.

Jose Maria Sison, founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines and the current chairperson of the International League of People’s Struggle, was the main speaker at the forum and spoke thru a video conference.

Sison explained the importance and correctness of the great works of Marx in the continuing revolution in the Philippines, which is one of the oldest in the world.

According to Sison, “By persevering in revolutionary struggle, under the inspiration of the Communist Manifesto, the Communist Party of the Philippines and the Filipino people have already earned the honor of being recognized as the torch bearer of revolution at a time that the proletariat and people are struggling hard to rise from the general conditions of revisionist betrayal, defeat and retreat of previous  revolutionary forces and the ruthless offensives launched by imperialism and reaction.”

Written by the German philosopher and economist Karl Marx, with the aid of Frederick Engels, the Communist Manifesto was first published on February 21, 1848. It became a very important document in an era when workers movement is in the upsurge and workers are building their parties in different parts of Europe.  Since then, it has been translated to various languages and is considered the “second best-selling book of all time”, next to the Bible.

“It has been seriously studied in many parts of the world – in classrooms and universities, in the factories, streets, urban poor communities, and in the countrysides.  It is continuously read and studied, inspiring and harnessing revolutionaries who prove on the correctness of the practice of Marxism and that it never once became passé,” ends Magtanggol.#

Mula noon, naisalin ito sa iba’t ibang lenggwahe at tinaguriang “second best-selling book of all time” kasunod ng bibliya.
