March 7, 2013

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas today said the downgrading of charges from murder to homicide against the killers of eminent scientist Leonard Co and his companions Leyte showed the Aquino government remained inutile in ending the impunity of human rights violations. “The Aquino government troops violated the rules of engagement, showed premeditation in killing the victims who were pleading they were civilians, and tried to cover up the killing of Leonard Co and his companions, Sofronio Cortez and Julius Borromeo, on Nov. 15, 2010 in Kananga, Leyte,” said Fr. Santiago “Ka Sanny” Salas, NDF-EV spokesperson. “The Department of Justice's downgrading of the charges from murder to homicide is thus outrageous. A conscientious and just government would have been deeply ashamed and striven to end the the impunity behind the cowardly and despicable act of the 19th IB troops.

Translation: Hugo Chavez was the champion of the Venezuelan people
