The unremitting power rate hikes are adding to the burdens of the long-suffering majority of the Filipino people. Since December, power companies have been demanding hefty increases in electricity bills, courting the people's rage.

Although the enormous power rate hikes have been temporarily put on hold through a Supreme Court order, such major price surges remain a threat to the people economically, not just now, but in the long term. For as long as the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) exists, the people will always be at the mercy of the big comprador bourgeois conspiracy that controls the production, transmission and distribution of electricity.

The toiling masses are one in demanding the junking of EPIRA. In more than a decade of privatization under EPIRA, the Filipino people have been suffering from incessant power rate hikes. The upward spiral in the price of electricity is the result of the liberalization policy advanced by EPIRA.

SWS overdoes survey manipulation in claiming Yolanda victims satisfied with Aquino—CPP

Information Bureau
Communist Party of the Philippines
January 25, 2014

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today asserted that the Social Weather Stations (SWS) has outdone itself in manipulating the results of its pro-Aquino surveys by claiming that 73% of Yolanda victims are “satisfied” with the Aquino government’s performance when asked during the first week of December.

“This time, the SWS has overdone the manipulation of its survey and completely discredited itself when it claimed that a large majority of Yolanda victims graded Aquino as ‘very good’ at a time when the greater part of the population of Tacloban and other areas devastated by the supertyphoon were suffering gravely from the Aquino regime’s unprecendented incompetence in delivering relief, and anomalies in handling foreign aid and corruption in rehabilitation work had already become apparent.”

The power hikes increase adds extra weight to the grave condition that majority of the Filipino people suffer. Since December last year, power companies imposed additional charges that stoke the ire of the people.

Even its implementation was temporarily withheld by the order from the Supreme Court, extra charges pose a real threat to the livelihood of the people in the near future. While the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) law still exists, conspiring big bourgeois compradors that hold control of the production, transmission and distribution of electricity will always make the people suffer.

More

1 - What is your position towards Mao Zedong Thought or Maoism? Are there big differences between treating the theoretical contributions of Mao Zedong to scientific socialism as "Mao Zedong Thought" or "Maoism"? What would consist in taking Maoism as the third stage in the development of the theory of the practice of the proletariat? Would Maoism get in contradiction with the contributions given by other theoreticals of scientific socialism, like President Kim Il Sung with its Juche Idea?

JMS: There is no difference in content between Mao Zedong Thought and Maoism. When the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) used the phrase Mao Zedong Thought in 1969, all the major theoretical and practical achievements of Comrade Mao were encompassed.  They are also encompassed in the word, Maoism, used by the CPP since the early 1990s.  The phrase Marxism-Leninism-Maoism evokes continuity and advance. The appearance of the word Maoism is symmetrical to Marxism and Leninism.

Resuming peace negotiations with Aquino or next president

Interview with Prof. JOSE MARIA SISON
NDFP Chief Political Consultant
By Delfin T. Mallari Jr.
Correspondent, Philippine Daily Inquirer
January 21, 2013

DELFIN T. MALLARI, Jr. (DTM): Is there really no more chance for the resumption of the peace negotiations under the Benigno Aquino III administration?

Prof. JOSE MARIA SISON (JMS): The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) policy is to negotiate with the government of the Republic of the Philippines (GPH) in accordance with The Hague Joint Declaration, Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees, the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, and other agreements. The Aquino regime is responsible for paralyzing the peace negotiations by refusing to comply with these agreements.
